Great Resource for Social Justice Themed Books for Children: LGBTQ and More

Great Resource for Social Justice Themed Books for Children: LGBTQ and More

Debra Jacobs

Looking for picture books that feature LGBTQ children and families?

I found a fantastic resource that I’m thrilled to share with you.

If you love children’s literature, and you’re looking for books with a social justice message, check out The Conscious Kid, a publication on Medium providing lists of books by and for underrepresented groups.

The Conscious Kid’s LGBTQ book list includes stories about gender non-conforming kids (some of which I recommended here), and about families with two dads or two moms. Like all of The Conscious Kid’s articles, it includes detailed descriptions of each book, recommended age ranges from preschool through the teen years, and photos of the book covers.

Other book lists posted on The Conscious Kid include “15 Children’s Books on Extraordinary Black Athletes by Black Authors,” “13 Recommended #OwnVoices Reads for Ramadan,” “#IndigenousReads by Indigenous Writers: A Children’s Reading List,” and more.

I was so delighted to find this detailed and informative resource, and I hope you are, too.
